Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before starting your Flooring or Handrails Project
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes, our estimate appointments are 100% free, we see it as a consultation where we get to know your vision for your new flooring or handrails project.
How long does an estimate take?
The time needed for a flooring estimate can range from 15 minutes to about an hour, depending on your project's size and details. During the visit, a flooring specialist will measure the area, learn about your project goals, and guide you through the best flooring options available.
What happens during a flooring estimate?
During the estimate visit, we take thee time to understand your project and evaluate thee conditions of your home to recommend the best flooring solution.
This includes:
- Measuring all areas of the project
- Reviewing Flooring Product Options
- Check Subfloor Conditions
- Evaluating humidity and moisture exposure
- Discussing stair requirements and code considerations
Our goal is to provide a clear, accurate estimate and help you choose the right flooring and handrail system for your home.
How far out are you scheduling?
For flooring estimates in the Metro Atlanta area, we can often schedule an appointment the same day or within 1 day to measure your project and provide a detailed estimate.
When it comes to starting your flooring installation, Peach State Hardwood is able to move faster than many flooring companies because we handle our projects with in-house crews instead of subcontractors.
In many cases, we can begin your hardwood flooring installation or refinishing project within about a week after the contract is signed, depending on material availability and the size of the project.
Do I have to put a deposit to start work?
Yes. For all flooring installation, refinishing, and handrail projects, we require a 50% deposit to schedule and begin the work.
The remaining 50% balance is only due after the project is fully completed and you are 100% satisfied with the results.
This deposit allows us to secure your project on our installation schedule and order any materials needed for your hardwood flooring or flooring installation project.
At Peach State Hardwood, we believe in keeping the process simple and transparent so there are no surprises throughout your flooring project.
Can you match my existing wood flooring?
> Solid Hardwood
Solid Hardwood We are experienced in pinpointing the wood species, width, and grade of your existing hardwood floors. When you provide the original stain details, we can test new wood samples to confirm a proper color blend. Lack of stain records isn't an issue. We can often detect the stain color and mix custom shades to match your floor.> Engineered Hardwood
> Engineered Hardwood
Engineered Hardwood The best results with engineered hardwood happen when we have your original product information since matching depends on the specific manufacturer and finish. If you can't provide that info, we have plenty of flooring choices and will help you find the closest match to your current engineered hardwood.
What's the difference between Solid Hardwood & Engineered Hardwood?
Both solid hardwood flooring and engineered hardwood flooring are real wood floors. The main difference is how the plank is constructed and where it can be installed.
Solid Hardwood Flooring
-
Made from a single solid piece of wood
-
Typically stapled or nailed to a plywood subfloor
-
Best installed above grade (main floors or upper levels)
-
Can be sanded and refinished multiple times
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
-
Made with a multi-layer (plywood) core and a real hardwood veneer on top
-
Can be installed over plywood or concrete
-
Works well for basements, condos, and slab homes
-
Often available pre-finished from the factory
Both options are beautiful real hardwood floors, and the best choice depends on your subfloor, level of the home, and installation conditions. At Peach State Hardwood, we help homeowners choose the right option for their hardwood flooring installation project.
What type of flooring is best for pets?
The best flooring for pets depends on the type of pet, their weight, and activity level. However, some flooring options tend to perform better in homes with dogs and cats.
Hardwood flooring and water-resistant flooring options are often the most popular choices because they are durable and easy to maintain.
Common pet-friendly flooring options:
• Engineered hardwood flooring - durable and more stable with humidity changes
• Solid hardwood flooring - long lasting and can be refinished over time
• Waterproof or water-resistant flooring - helps protect against accidents and spills
These options make it easier to clean pet hair, dirt, and moisture compared to carpet.
That said, carpet can still be useful in certain areas. For example, carpet runners on stairs can help pets get better traction and safely go up and down the stairs.
At Peach State Hardwood, we help homeowners choose the best pet-friendly flooring option based on their home, lifestyle, and pets.
Is waterproof flooring really waterproof?
This is a great question, and at Peach State Hardwood we always give our customers a straight answer: most "waterproof flooring" is actually water-resistant flooring.
Many modern waterproof vinyl, laminate, and engineered flooring products are designed to handle water for 24-72 hours, making them ideal for everyday situations like spills, pet accidents, or regular mopping.
This means you usually don't have to worry about:
• Spilled drinks
• Pets splashing water from their bowl
• Normal cleaning and mopping
However, these floors are not designed to withstand flooding or long-term standing water. If a major leak or flood occurs, the flooring will likely need to be replaced.
That said, today's water-resistant flooring options are extremely durable and a great choice for kitchens, busy homes, and households with pets.
Do you sell material or just install?
We do both. At Peach State Hardwood, we supply and install a wide range of hardwood flooring, engineered hardwood, waterproof flooring, and staircase components.
We work directly with manufacturers and negotiate pricing upfront so we can offer our customers high-quality flooring at competitive prices. Every product we display is carefully selected and tested by our team to make sure it meets our standards for durability and performance.
Our flooring installation process follows industry guidelines and manufacturer specifications, which helps ensure your flooring is installed correctly and your product warranty remains valid.
In short, we handle both the flooring materials and the professional installation, making the entire process simple and seamless for our customers.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, we offer financing with options up to 24 months without interest.
How long does install take?
- Solid Hardwood - 5 to 8 days
- Engineered Hardwood - 1 to 3 days
- Water Resistant Flooring - 1 to 3 days
- Handrails - 2 to 4 days
